    Patching a torn community

I'm not accusing OTLand users or staff of starting anything, nor am I accusing OTFans users or staff of doing the same. I am well aware that this bickering started over something insignificant, followed by over-the-top retaliations; and escalated to an unreasonable level and has encompassed an entire community of bystanders who know little if anything of the truth.

I want the bickering between OTFans and OTLand to stop, completely. It's died down, but it is still a point of contention on both communities. It's a petty dispute between the owners of the respective sites that has probably long ended, but the community; knowing nothing; has felt the need to continue long past the right time.

I am well aware that OTFans and OTLand will always be "competing" on some level to become the better, or more popular, or whatever, site for Open-Tibia. I don't care who wins the competition, it has no bearing on me. I can put out content on either site with no issue.

However, the fighting is the issue. Two parties can be in sportsman-like competition with eachother, or they can bicker amongst eachother and try to make the one site look inferior to the other in an attempt to garter new users. The latter approach is cheap, but commonly used and found to be effective in politics. But, I dislike it and would like it to stop.

I just want things to be sane again. The fighting's gone on far too long, and although I know both sides might think that the other is somehow "unforgivable", know that the other side was either doing what it thought was correct or what it felt it had to do to preserve itself - neither side acted completely on malice, however it may seem.

So, just stop the fighting. It's pointless, and every moment that I personally spend reading and commenting on some post attacking one of the sites is a moment that I could be spending either putting information out to the community or developing the community's major product. The community around OTServ, no matter on which forum it may dwell, is the same community - developers, moochers, noobs, and those who can barely understand english are all here attempting to do whatever it is here to do; whether it is on OTFans or on OTLand. The aforementioned parties are present and deeply routed in both forums, and the only difference between the members of the two forums is which forum they decided that they were most comfortable residing at. Hell, plenty of users use them both.

Disclaimer: I also posted this at OTLand. This is not an attack on OTFans, as stated in the first paragraph.

Looking for users for my forum - intelligent people who want to have "smart" discussion.
Looking for web developers for the website that will be connected to the forums. Update: I got some content on there now.

I don't know the reasons for this fight, but I do know something: this fight is harming the OT community as a whole. At the long run, both sites (OTLand and otfans) has only to lose by attacking each other. The competition between both sites could be healthy and good (making each size do their best to be the winner), but we all know that it is not the case here.

I wonder if something new has happened that made Nate to write this... But I totally sign his writing.

    Cheers,

    Assassina Mutante.
Sorry, but I will not reply requests for help coming from private messages. The right place to ask for help is the forum.

I won't get into details what it all started over, as it does not matter anymore. All I have to say is unless you have heard what happened from myself, Griz, Talaturen, or any of his co-owners, chances are you are clueless of what really happened. Therefore leaving no one any room to talk about it.

As Nate said, the fighting is just between the users now which is just stupid and pointless. Us site owners talked it out, put everything behind us long ago and we were the ones it concerned in the first place. I havn't seen any bickering lately, but I am sure it is there somewhere. Anyways we put it behind us, as the rest of you need to do.

    Signed,

I am creating a new Open-Tibia Forum as we speak. Expect great things coming soon.

Although, I agree with you, but we've tried to solve the crisis many times. Indeed, it is harming the Open-Tibia Community, but unless both sites agree to have peace at the same time and have a global announcement, instead of a meeting out in the dark alleyway. There is no solvent to this.

Evo, I wish I could agree with you there but, this proves that no emotional ties have been broken yet.

Nothing new has happened concerning the fight, but a completely unrelated topic was recently veered off course (then corrected) due to it. It irritated me, and it took me a couple of days to decide whether or not to even address the issue (for fear that addressing it might return its power). I ended up doing it, hopefully it doesn't piss anyone off.

Of course they wouldn't want to discuss it, it should've been over with. It's no longer a bicker between the site's Admins, nor is it a bicker between the sites, it's just a few members continuing the hate for no reason; which in turn spawns more hate towards the site those members (seem to) represent.
